INCREASING work pressures on doctors have been blamed for the higher rate of suicide among the medical profession, particularly among women physicians.

Irish Medical Journal editor, Dr John Murphy, pointed to a recent analysis of 25 research studies relating to doctor suicides that had “worrying findings“.

It found the suicide rate among women doctors was 130% higher than among women in general and 40% higher among male doctors than generally among men.
