THE Government is to give 5m to aid agencies working in Iraq as fears grow over a humanitarian crisis in the besieged city of Basra.

Aid agencies say they are extremely concerned as the city has been without electricity and water for four days.

Minister of State Tom Kitt yesterday expressed concern for the Iraqi civilian population and said there was considerable uncertainty regarding the full impact of military action on the humanitarian crisis.
