AN urgent review of rural policing was called for yesterday after it emerged a total of 22 garda stations in the Limerick division are each manned by only three gardaí or less.

There is just one garda stationed in 11 of the Co Limerick stations.

Deputy Dan Neville of Fine Gael said the real situation was even worse: “Garda stations with one garda are not stations which have a garda on duty most of the time. These are stations which have one garda who comes from a bigger station maybe ten miles away for an hour a day and then leaves.
