THE Green Party has promised to seek an extra €1 billion annually to spend on education if it forms a coalition government after the next election.

Paul Gogarty, the party’s education spokesperson, said proper investment in schools and colleges would be repaid through the social and economic benefits.

Although the areas of priority have yet to be announced, he said adult education, implementation of proposed further education reforms and school building projects were key areas where additional spending is needed.
