GREENHOUSE gas emissions from vehicles on Irish roads continues to increase rise despite global warming, according to the latest EPA figures.

Following two successive years of reductions there was a rise in overall emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) in 2004. Overall GHG emissions in 2004 were 68.7 million tonnes which was 0.45% higher than in 2003.

Between 2003 and 2004 emissions from the transport sector increased by 6%; this continues a significant long-term trend of increased emissions from transport. Emissions from the residential sector increased by 7%; this follows a number of years when emissions from this sector changed little.
