Report to highlight growth of indiscipline in schools

THE growth of indiscipline in secondary schools to be revealed in a report today shows the need for more specialist schools, the Labour Party said last night.

Education Minister Mary Hanafin will today launch a report by a task force that will outline the scale of the growth in the discipline problems in schools. However, the interim report written by Dr Maeve Martin is not expected to make any concrete proposals to tackle the disciplinary difficulties faced by teachers in secondary schools.

The teachers unions and school managers have been demanding a change in the law governing appeals made by parents whose children have been expelled. They claim it is too lax and allows for successful appeals.
