THOUSANDS of non-nationals claiming the right to be here on the basis of having an Irish-born child are to be expelled under a new Government policy.

The move follows a Supreme Court ruling last January that parents of these children do not have an automatic right to residency.

This effectively means the children of the parents, despite having Irish citizenship, will also have to leave the country with their parents, unless they are abandoned here.
