THE Revenue Customs service notched up huge increases in the quantity of hard drugs seized last year, according to its annual report.

And Customs also hit paramilitary gangs and criminal organisations hard with the seizure of 631,880 litres of illicit oil as well as nine oil-laundering plants.

These plants had the capacity to launder around 23.4 million litres of oil per year, with a potential annual profit to the criminals of more than €9 million.
