THE High Court will decide whether the dual mandate ban is legally sound just months before next year’s local elections.

Fine Gael TD Michael Ring’s court challenge to the abolition of the dual mandate was yesterday given a commencement date of January 28.

The outcome of January’s case notwithstanding, the dual mandate ban will disqualify members of the Oireachtas from becoming local councillors.
