Village hits Lotto jackpot but winner fails to cash in

LOCALS in the village of Callan, Co Kilkenny, were yesterday checking to see if Christmas had come early after news broke that the €3.1 million winning lotto ticket had been sold in the town.

Kerwick’s newsagent on the main street of the village came to life early in the morning when the call came from the National Lottery offices to say the shop had sold Wednesday’s night’s winning ticket.

“There’s a great buzz around Callan, it’s great news, but we don’t know yet who it is,” said Kerwick’s shop assistant Martha Madigan.
