African drug seized at airport

CUSTOMS officers at Dublin Airport yesterday seized a drugs shipment worth €1.3m which was bound for New York.

The 530kg shipment of khat, a green-leafed drug which is chewed to produce a euphoric effect, was found in air freight.

It was the second seizure of khat in 24 hours. Another shipment, weighing 500kg and worth approximately €1.2m was discovered in Dublin Airport on Wednesday.
