THERE is unlikely to be any mass deportation of the 10,300 asylum seekers who have applied for residency on the basis of their children being born in Ireland, it emerged last night.

This follows last month’s Supreme Court ruling which found that non-national parents with Irish children did not have an automatic right to residency.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Michael McDowell has confirmed that from today the State will not accept any new residency applications on the basis of an Irish-born child.
