OUTSPOKEN Fine Gael TD John Deasy yesterday launched a broadside against his “complacent” Dáil colleagues and also criticised his own party for its “inertia” in opposition.

In a round of interviews the Waterford TD remained unrepentant about smoking three cigarettes in the Dáil bar last week, a protest that led to his sacking as Fine Gael justice spokesman.

He trenchantly criticised Dáil colleagues for being too comfortable in their jobs and of being afraid to take controversial or unpopular stands on issues. He also took a sideswipe at the media for “hammering” him in the past week in a hypocritical fashion.
