THE expenditure on electronic voting needs to be investigated by the public finance watchdog, the comptroller and auditor general (C&AG), Fine Gael said yesterday.

The €42 million bill run up by Martin Cullen on the abandoned rollout of e-voting, including €3.3m spent on PR and advertising, was described as an irresponsible misuse of public funds.

Reiterating his view that the e-voting debacle is a resignation matter for the Environment Minister, Fine Gael environment spokesman Bernard Allen said the expenditure needed to be thoroughly scrutinised.
