A REPEAT of the Dublin bus tragedy was narrowly averted in Waterford city centre yesterday when 19 people were injured after a bus mounted a packed pavement before crashing into a lamp-post.

One woman remained in a stable condition at Waterford Regional Hospital (WRH) last night as two investigations were launched to establish the cause of the accident.

Traffic on the city’s quays was brought to a standstill as ambulances, fire brigades and garda vehicles rushed to the scene opposite the clock tower shortly after 11am.
