Twink’s ex to have a boy with new partner

PANTO queen Twink’s ex-husband David Agnew and his 29-year-old partner Ruth Hickey are to have a baby boy in the New Year.

Ruth, who is a clarinettist in the National Symphony Orchestra, is almost five months pregnant and is expecting the baby, her first, to arrive at the beginning of January.

Speaking for the first time about her relationship with 45-year-old Agnew, who is a celebrated oboist in the same orchestra, Ruth told me this week that both David and herself are ecstatic at the news.

“I just found out yesterday that it’s going to be a boy and we’re both so excited and happy,” she said on Thursday evening after performing at a gig in the National Concert Hall.

The child will be Agnew’s first son - he already has two daughters with Twink - Chloe, 14, and Naomi, 10.

David has been living with Ruth in west Dublin since splitting with Twink, whose real name is Adele King, at the end of last year.

Ruth, who is a regular columnist with Social & Personal magazine, explained that she has never been happier.

“I’m walking on air. Our friends have been so supportive. We weren’t sure at first whether we wanted to be told which sex the child was, we would have been overjoyed either way.”

David and Ruth have made regular appearances as a couple on the Dublin social scene from as far back as last October when they attended their first public event together at the Odeon for the relaunch of society magazine Social & Personal.

Just last weekend the couple were special guests at the top table for the inaugural Have a Heart ball at the Four Seasons, which saw an appearance by the reigning Miss World, Maria Julia Mantilla, as guest of honour.

Ruth, who, like her partner, is a highly respected classical musician, plans to continue her music and writing over the coming months as she and David prepare to start a family of their own.
