Prison threat for bonfire dumping

PEOPLE caught throwing household waste onto bonfires face hefty fines and even prison sentences, a senior environmental officer said yesterday.

The warning comes as waste officials in Dublin conduct a crackdown on the illegal disposal of tyres in bonfires by rogue tyre companies.

Sonia Dean, who heads a new waste enforcement taskforce in Dublin, also warned children and adults against breathing in the toxic fumes from bonfires.
