Local builders threaten lay-offs

THOUSANDS of construction jobs will be lost if the government goes ahead with plans to give major road building projects to foreign companies, the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) said last night.

The federation’s warning followed the unveiling of a three-pronged strategy by Transport Minister Seamus Brennan for bringing down the cost of building roads.
