Scheme to hike prescription drug prices

FAMILIES face paying up €5 a month extra for prescription drugs as part of a major Government cost-savings drive.

The move, signalled in last month’s spending estimates, will spark further controversy over the failure to extend promised medical cards to low-income families.

But there was good news for the health service last night when it emerged that waiting lists have decreased by 14% in the last 12 months.
