IARNRÓD Éireann has been urged to provide a mobile phone-free carriage on each long-distance passenger train.

The call, made by Cllr Michael Gleeson, of Killarney, was unanimously supported at a meeting of Kerry County Council.

While he understood some people had to do business while travelling on trains, Mr Gleeson said train travel was still a leisurely activity for others.
