Champion snorers battle for treasure
Seán O’Brien, a 24-year-old bachelor farmer from Midleton, Co Cork and Mark Daly, 29, an auctioneer from Kenmare, Co Kerry, have been installed as joint 6/4 favourites by Cashmans Bookmakers to win the show and collect the prize of 50,000.
The winner will be revealed when the final programme in the eight-week RTÉ series is screened next Sunday.
More than 700,000 people are expected to tune in to the show to find out which of the four remaining castaways takes the loot.
Seán said: “Mark and me got on excellently. I know people think we’re equally popular but I think if anything, he’s more popular than me.”
He said if he won the money he’d spend 30,000 on his milking parlour, 10,000 on bills and blow the rest on a holiday.
Kenmare GAA Club chairman Mark said the exposure he’d got from the show had boosted his auctioneering business.
He said: “Seán and I got on like a house on fire...we were both known as big snorers. He was great craic and if he wins, I’ll wish him the best.”
Mark said if he won, he’d take flying lessons and donate to the GAA’s new sports centre in Kenmare.
Bernadette “Bee” Duffy is quoted as 5/2 by the bookies. The 21-year-old lifeguard from Ballina, Co Mayo, said she’d spend the money on designer clothes.
Outsider Seán Paul Teeling, a nurse from Raheny, Dublin, said he’d look after his family and make donations to animal homes and hospital charities. He is quoted at 6/1.
Treasure Island spokesperson Karen Fitzgerald said: “This series has caught on much quicker with audiences, than the last. Seán and Mark are the most mentioned, I must admit.
“I think it’s been popular because of the strong characters in it,” she said.
