Council chiefs must answer politicians’ queries, says Cullen

CITY and county council managers will be forced by law to respond to queries from TDs and senators — even though they will no longer be council members.

Environment Minister Martin Cullen yesterday responded to concerns of backbenchers by stating that he would be setting out statutory regulations on interaction with councils for Oireachtas members.

Opposition parties and Fianna Fáil backbenchers have expressed concerns about access to information at local level.
