CHICKEN producers will be forced to show exactly how much water they are adding to chicken meat under new rules being drawn up by EU Consumer Commissioner David Byrne.

This follows revelations that chicken, mostly destined for restaurants in Ireland and Britain, have been bulked up with as much as 40% water.

Chicken meat was also found to contain quantities of pig and beef meat that were not listed and the quantity of chicken meat was overstated on the labelling.
