A PARENTS’ leader has rejected Education Minister Mary Hanafin’s claim that seat belts cannot be fitted on all school buses before September, saying that money was the only thing stopping their installation.

Eleanor Petrie, president of the National Parents Council-Post Primary (NPC-PP), believes money is the only thing stopping the Government from installing seat belts and ensuring that three children no longer have to share space for just two.

It is estimated that such safety improvements on the 3,000-strong school bus fleet could cost up to €100 million.
