Publicans threaten to withhold VAT

PUBLICANS are threatening to withhold VAT payments if the ban on smoking in the workplace goes ahead in January.

It was also proposed that a legal slush fund be set up to assist any member who is fined or jailed for refusing to comply with the smoking ban.

Vintners have also vowed to fight the legislation all the way to the European Court if necessary.
