‘Desperate’ Dubliner eats sheep’s eyes for €700

ANITA GILL was a bit green around the gills yesterday after she ate two sheep’s eyeballs in a radio challenge.

The Dublin woman, who works in the accounts department of a builders’ provider, said it was her “worst experience ever”.

Having signed on for the 98FM Desperate Housewife competition, she didn’t know until the eyeballs were presented to her just what was in store.

In a live, on air, head-to-head with another woman she took a quick glance at the Mongolian delicacy and, quicker than you could say ‘salt and vinegar’, had two of them in the bag.

“I think they were boiled all right, it wouldn’t have been very hygienic if they weren’t. I didn’t look at them too closely, but I can tell you they were blue. They tasted awful, especially the stringy bits, they were hard to get down,” she said.

After the challenge on Grafton Street, which netted her a prize of €700, she retreated to a local ale house. “I had to have a couple of beers, it was the only way I could keep them down. I don’t think I would ever do anything like that again, but when I went along this morning I got carried away with the event and I didn’t think too much about what I was doing.”

“It hasn’t sunk in yet,” the Clondalkin woman said, but not in a gastronomic sense.

The 98FM promotion will run for the next three weeks during which each morning two woman will go head-to-head and face the challenge. The woman who takes on the task for the least amount of cash wins the prize.
