Brosnan cuts ties with drug addict son
The former Bond actor said he had tried his best to help Christopher, 32, beat his cocaine and heroin addictions.
Now Brosnan has told his son: “Get busy living or get busy dying.”
In an interview with Playboy magazine, the actor said: “Christopher is still very lost. Shockingly so. I know where he is, but he’s having a hard life.
“I can only have strong faith and believe he will recover. He has tested everybody in this family but none more so than himself. He knows how to get out. He doesn’t want to.
“It’s painful because you shut down. You never completely cut them off, but I have cut Christopher off. I had to say, ‘Go. Get busy living, or get busy dying.’ He has my prayers.”
Brosnan, 52, adopted Christopher and his sister Charlotte after marrying their mother Cassandra Harris, who died of cancer in 1991.
He is married to second wife Keeley Shaye Smith and they have two young children.
Christopher, who lives in London, has been in trouble with the police on several occasions. But Brosnan insisted: “For all his waywardness and addiction I adore Christopher and just want him healthy and well.”
The actor also hit out at Bond bosses who dropped him from the 007 franchise in favour of Daniel Craig.
Brosnan plans to use his role in new movie The Matador to show 007 movie bosses what they are missing out on.
The 52-year-old Irish actor was judged to be too old to continue as the world’s most famous superspy, and has been replaced by 37-year-old Craig.
He rants, “When the f**kers try and hem you in with Bond, it’s great to come back with The Matador. It’s great to say, ‘F**k you a**ehole. F**k you who wouldn’t give me a job’.
“‘F**k you who thought I was some wuss. F**k you who thought I was a pretty boy. F**k you who thought anything of me without even knowing me or giving me the chance’.
“‘F**k you.’ But when you go around with all that inside you all the time, you end up completely mangled so you have to let it go.”
