Publication of feeder-schools list only part of the picture

THE publication of feeder-school lists for the country's third-level institutions has been met with considerable opposition by teacher unions, school-management bodies and other partners in the education sector.

However, they are not intended to be read as 'school league tables', as labelled by some commentators.

In the absence of definitive information on schools from the Department of Education or other State bodies, these lists are just a snapshot of the numbers who gained entry to various institutions from the country's 750 second-level schools.
