THE Department of Justice has expanded its crackdown on failed asylum seekers with deportations topping 20 a week.

Yesterday’s removal of 53 Romanians and 12 Moldovans, including 10 children, was the largest single operation carried out by immigration agencies.

Just under 600 people were deported in 2003, with 120 leaving in the last six weeks of the year.
