Move to seize drug dealers’ passports

The minister in charge of the State’s drugs policies believes there is “some merit” in a proposal to confiscate the passports of convicted drugs dealers.

Junior minister Noel Ahern said that withholding the passports of international drug dealers and couriers would work in certain limited circumstances.

However, he said that any legislation would need to be closely looked at to ensure it was constitutional and didn’t breach civil liberties.
