Ahern welcomes Adams move but says more clarity is needed

THE IRA needs to provide further clarification on putting an end to its activities, but Gerry Adams’ statement was a welcome development, the Taoiseach said yesterday.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair said one more answer was required to the three questions he posed to the Republican movement last week.

All sides were now within a whisker of kick-starting the Good Friday Agreement, Mr Ahern said, and Mr Adams’ statement was clearly a considered effort to try and break the current impasse.
