FINE GAEL’s Munster MEP Simon Coveney ended months of speculation yesterday by confirming his intention to contest the next general election.

Two years into his five-year term in the European Parliament, the 33-year-old became the first FG MEP to declare an intention to focus on domestic politics.

Dublin MEP Gay Mitchell and Leinster MEP Mairead McGuinness have yet to declare their intentions.
