Maverick landlords will be penalised

HOUSING Minister Noel Ahern pledged yesterday that the 90,000 landlords who have so far failed to register with the new Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB) will be penalised if they fail to comply with the law.

The minister said that the uptake in registration had improved immensely in recent weeks with over 50,000 now registered.

He expected this figure to increase substantially in the coming weeks because there has been a "deluge" of applications.
