State donates €1m to Niger

THE Government has pledged €1 million to support the international response to the food crisis in Niger.

The Government has been monitoring the situation closely in recent weeks, working with UN partners, including the World Food Programme, and with Concern, who have been working on the ground in Niger.

The UN is to airlift 44 tonnes of emergency food rations to Niger. However, aid agencies say it is not nearly enough to help the four million people, including 800,000 children, who are facing starvation.
