JUVENILE crime is not getting out of control and is lower than it was 20 years ago, according to new research.

The study also strongly criticised the quality of official crime statistics and said it was “disturbing” they were used to formulate government policy.

The book, by Professor Dermot Walsh of the University of Limerick, was carried out for the Department of Justice.
