Discipline a problem for new teachers
Of more than 1,500 probationary teachers who began their careers in the last school year, more than 200 took part in a survey of their preparedness. Every primary teacher must pass an evaluation from inspectors’ visits during their first few years of work.
The probationary teachers felt training courses were too theoretical and neglected guidance in practical issues such as record keeping. Some considered themselves ill-prepared to maintain discipline and motivate pupils.
