PRELIMINARY investigations confirmed warning devices for vehicles carrying high loads were functioning prior to the weekend collision in the Jack Lynch Tunnel in Cork.

Warning lights flashed as the vehicle, carrying a crane, entered the southbound bore of the tunnel.

Cork City Council said a witness backed up CCTV evidence that alarm mechanisms, cautioning drivers, were working at the time.
