Tensions smoothed over at face-to-face meeting

SIMMERING tensions between Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and prominent anti-abuse campaigner Colm O’Gorman were smoothed over yesterday following a face-to-face meeting in Government buildings.

Emerging from the Taoiseach’s office yesterday evening, Mr O’Gorman said he had had a “very amicable, constructive and helpful meeting” in which Mr Ahern had made it clear that he was aware of the “sense of disappointment and betrayal following the publication of the Ferns report”.

Earlier, an ill-tempered Mr Ahern had indicated that his comments in defence of the Church had been “intentionally misrepresented”.
