Family lose third son in prison stabbing

THE parents of an inmate who died after being stabbed in his prison cell lost two other sons in tragic circumstances.

Alan Greene, a 31-year-old serving nine months for drugs offences, was fatally stabbed in the chest shortly after midday yesterday in his cell on the B1 landing of Mountjoy prison.

As Governor John Lonergan apologised to the family of the murdered inmate and said the prison service had failed in its duty of care, it emerged that one of his brothers, 22-year-old Barry, committed suicide, while a second, 18-year-old Paul, drowned while on a trip abroad.
