MOTORISTS who commit certain driving offences from July on may no longer be issued with notices when stopped by gardaí.

Instead, officers will inform them of the offence alleged and will record their details into a hand-held computer or onto a specially designed notepad.

The system, introduced on a pilot basis in the Dublin, Louth and Meath regions last year, and subsequently extended to parts of Cork, could go nationwide, according to Justice Minister Michael McDowell.
