Special day for youngest garda
The presentation at the Officers Club, Garda Headquarters, is to be made to ‘Garda’ David Moran.
Seven-year-old David, who is from Swinford, Co Mayo, suffers from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and made a wish through the Make A Wish Foundation to be a garda for a week. This follows on from a visit by local Garda Brendan Walsh to David’s school and telling his class about the work that gardaí do.
David arrived in Dublin yesterday with his parents Patrick and Emma and two younger brothers Jordan, aged three, and Tyler, one.
David commenced his training earlier this week in full uniform spending his first days with the Garda Dog Unit, Garda Mounted Unit, Garda Water Unit and Garda Air Support Unit.
Yesterday he spent time with the Garda Traffic Corps before meeting An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern. A tour of the Garda Technical Bureau is scheduled for today before the presentation at 4pm.
On Sunday, David will accompany the Garda Band in Croke Park before returning home to Mayo. He is expected to report to Swinford Garda Station for two days beat duty next Monday joining Garda Brendan Walsh who inspired the wish.
