Thousands of tonnes of commercial waste illegally dumped

THOUSANDS of tonnes of waste, mostly shredded plastic, builders' rubble and other commercial refuse, has been dumped illegally at a site close to a Wexford village.

The extensive area near Clonegal, north of Enniscorthy, was sealed off yesterday morning as inspectors from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Carlow County Council investigated the site.

Gardaí in Bunclody and Carlow are looking into the waste disposal activities of one individual following the find. The dump, at Kilcarry, Clonegal, was discovered late last week but details of its extent were only made public yesterday.
