AROUND one in every 10 adults has been discriminated against in the last two years, figures showed yesterday.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) reported that 12.5% of people aged over 18 had suffered some form of prejudice. Figures from the quarterly national household survey showed people originally from outside Ireland reported the highest rates of discrimination with 31% stating they had been the victim of some form of bigotry.

The unemployed, 28.8%, non-nationals, 24.4%, non-Catholics, 21.6%, people with a disability, 19.6%, and 18- to 24-year-olds, 17.6%, all reported higher than average rates of discrimination.
