Parents of overweight children need to use the ‘F’ word

ACCORDING to the Irish Constitution, it is incumbent on each one of us to cherish the children of the nation. The problem is that we may be cherishing them a bit too much.

Recent studies show that Irish children are getting fatter by the day, most of it caused by being encouraged to eat junk food and indulge themselves in a sedentary lifestyle.

Obesity - particularly among the young - is currently exercising the mind of Health Minister Micheál Martin, who has targeted the obesity issue as his next health battleground.
