THREE in four people are in favour of allowing cannabis to be legally used for medical purposes, a survey shows.

But the same number are opposed to any relaxation of the laws in relation to recreational use.

A population survey, commissioned by the National Advisory Committee on Drugs (NACD), found a majority of people disapproved of people smoking cannabis and perceived a moderate-to-high risk from regular use of the drug.
