McDaid to quiz CIÉ over fare hikes

CIÉ bosses are to be asked to explain to the Government why fares on some Dublin Bus routes have increased by almost twice the rate sanctioned.

Junior Transport Minister Jim McDaid told an Oireachtas committee on transport he will ask the company for an official explanation into why some fares have increased so much.

While CIÉ was granted a fare increase of 9% by the Government, it has emerged the cost of individual bus routes has increased as much as 23%.
