Cutbacks may damage Nice vote, warn parties

THE Government’s mismanagement of the economy makes tougher spending cutbacks inevitable this autumn, Fine Gael and Labour insisted last night.

The two main Opposition parties demanded today’s special Dáil session on the Nice Treaty to also allow for focus on the current economic situation.

The move again highlights the difficulties facing the Government as they prepare to re-run the referendum on Nice.
