The first drug to treat the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis (CF) for around 80% of patients in Ireland has been approved by the HSE and is being considered for approval by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland has welcomed the long-awaited deal completed by the HSE and drug manufacturer Vertex to make a wonder CF drug available.

Cystic Fibrosis campaigners say they are hopeful a deal can be done with the makers of a life-changing drug.
