Investors remained in a buying mood on Election Day, sending US stocks broadly higher and building on big gains from a day earlier.

The US stock market rebounded from a nine-day losing streak on Monday, posting its biggest gain in eight months and driving the Dow Jones industrial average up more than 370 points.

Shaky results from consumer companies dragged the US stock market lower on Tuesday as well-known names like appliance maker Whirlpool and athletic apparel maker Under Armour suffered their worst losses in years.

The US stock market endured its worst performance in 18 months, driven lower by another slump in Chinese shares and heavy selling by technical traders.
