AN anti-government strike yesterday shut down much of Zimbabwe’s economy on the second day of a national week of protest called against the increasingly repressive rule of President Robert Mugabe.

Police have rounded up hundreds of Zimbabwe activists who were helping organise weekend protest marches against the disputed election victory of President Robert Mugabe.

Several banks and businesses closed today in support of a nationwide strike called to protest at irregularities in Zimbabwe’s widely condemned presidential election.
